Janie Rothfield is an award winning clawhammer banjo player and powerhouse fiddler who has been playing Old Time Music “forever”! Janie got her start playing with older generation fiddlers and banjo players from New England, North Carolina and Quebec and since high school has had bands that played music rooted in Traditional American and Celtic music styles. She is known for her melodic and rhythmic style on both fiddle and banjo, and original tunes. She just released her 11th recording, OUT OF THIN AIR, that features all of her own compositions and songs.
Janie has taught banjo and fiddle privately and at camps and festivals such as Banjo Camp North, Old Songs Summer Camps, Folk College and the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes. Her teaching method combines her easy to learn technique that combines strategies for learning to play by ear quickly with a focus on musicality and rhythm! Her tunes have won the Best Non-Traditional Tune at Clifftop Appalachian Stringband Festival TWICE! Jane performs with numerous bands, including Coracree, Great Big Taters, Sugar Pie, with Allan Carr, Panache Quartet, with daughter Shona Carr as Little Missy Hen's Teeth.
Kellie Allen is a wonderful old-time singer, great bass player and old time style guitarist originally from Kansas, who lives in SE Pennsylvania with her husband, Pete Peterson. While in her teens, Kellie started playing old-time tunes with her brother, a wonderful fiddler and banjo player, Greg Allen, and was inspired to sing and play by her musical family. Kellie has played at many festivals and concerts around the world, with a variety of bands, including the Orpheus Supertones, Waking Up Tillie, Sugar Pie, The Ubiquitones and with The Janie Rothfield Trio. Kellie and her husband Pete Peterson, sing old-time and early country duets together, and she teaches old-time guitar, bass, and singing at festivals and music camps around the country. She has won numerous old time music prizes with the Orpheus Supertones and Waking Up Tillie, as well as individual awards in Old Time Singing. She and Pete have a CD of duets titled "I'll Never Forsake You".
Pete Peterson is a master Old Time musician, specializing in three finger style banjo for over 50 years, emulating Charlie Poole’s sound and songs. He also is a master of the old time guitar style using a thumbpick, in the ways of old time guitarists such as Roy Harvey, Maybelle Carter and Riley Puckett! Pete has traveled the world performing at festivals, concerts, music camps and workshops, and has won many prizes for his banjo and guitar playing, as well as for solo singing and in duets singing with his wife, Kellie Allen. With Kellie, he plays with the Orpheus Supertones, as well as with the Ubiquitones, and in the Janie Rothfield Trio! He can be heard on many recordings, including Janie Rothfield’s In The Moment recording.
