Austin, Texas
Options available for One Day Class or Full Weekend
Intermediate Clawhammer Banjo Class (Bill Quern)
This class is for banjo players who can play a few standard tunes at a moderate speed and are familiar with playing in G tuning and the basic bum-ditty rhythm. Tablature will not be used and we will work to help you learn to play better by ear and pick up tunes easier and faster! We will review assorted rhythmic and melodic options, as well as drop thumb techniques and chords to tunes and songs. We will add tunes to your old time repertoire too!
Novice-Intermediate Fiddle Class (Janie Rothfield)
This class is for fiddlers (or violinists) who have some experience playing their instrument and who want to take their fiddling to the next level. Janie will focus on tone, rhythm, musicality, technique and playing by ear and in jams. You will learn some wonderful tunes, as well as how to play chords and how to get that Old Time sound in your music.
Beginning-Novice Guitar Class (Sarah Gowan)
This class if for people who have "dabbled" a bit with guitar, or who can play basic chords (G,D,A) and who want to be able to ramp up their guitar playing to play Old Time Music at jams with fiddlers and banjo players, and for accompanying songs. Sarah will work with you on moving easily from chord to chord, simple bass runs, improving your boom-chuck strum, and adding that Old Time rhythm to your playing.
Intermediate Guitar Class (Allan Carr)
This class is for guitar players who have 3-4 years experience, already can play the basic chords in the keys of G, D, A and C in the first position. Allan will help you with your rhythm, how to play and develop more bass runs in your playing, play by ear better and drive the old time tunes and songs at sessions, dances and performances.
Novice Appalachian Clogging Mini Class (Sarah Gowan) Sarah will be holding mini clogging classes during the "free/jam/socializing" time throughout the weekend. Bring flat soled shoes!
